Duration
8 day
DESCRIPTION
In the heart of the Arctic Circle, the Lofoten Islands offer a striking combination: abundant snow, steep mountains and descents that lead all the way to the sea.
This programme is designed for intermediate ski tourers, with daily ascents and descents along classic or exploratory routes, chosen according to the group’s level and the snow and weather conditions.
Located between the 68th and 69th parallels, the Lofoten Islands offer long days, epic panoramas and the deep silence of the far north. Most of the tours take place on Austvågøya, where peaks range between 600 and 1000 metres. The group stays in a traditional wooden house, managing meals together — a convivial and authentic Nordic experience.
Programme
Day 1 – Welcome beyond the Arctic Circl - Arrival at Evenes Airport in the late afternoon or evening. After collecting luggage, transfer to the first accommodation for a night’s rest in a hotel. Through the windows, the jagged outline of the Lofoten Islands begins to appear — a land suspended between ocean and mountains. The adventure begins.
Day 2 – Sætertinden (1,094 m) – First view of the Great North After breakfast, the adventure starts with a warm-up tour to Sætertinden, a graceful peak rising above 1,000 metres. A panoramic climb and descent with breathtaking views of fjords, sea and snow-covered ridges. In the afternoon, transfer to Laupstad, a small seaside village that will be our home for the week — a cosy wooden house where we’ll soon feel part of the landscape.
Day 3 – Varden (700 m) – The Balcony of the Lofoten Morning transfer towards Svolvær, the “capital” of the archipelago. From there, ascent to Varden, one of the most classic and beloved ski tours in the area. The reward: an incredible panorama where snowy peaks meet the deep blue fjords and Arctic light. Return to Laupstad in the afternoon.
Day 4 – Rundfjellet (800 m) – Perfect lines between sky and sea A day dedicated to Rundfjellet, a graceful mountain offering ideal slopes for both the ascent and the descent. Here, white dominates everything, and the sea always feels within reach of your skis. Ski touring in total silence, broken only by the rhythm of skins and breathing.
Day 5 – Store Kvittind (696 m) – Skis on from the doorstep Today, no transfers needed: we start right from our house in Laupstad, skis already on, heading towards Store Kvittind. Although modest in height, this peak offers a “big mountain” atmosphere and a 360° view over the fjord and surrounding summits. A satisfying climb and descent back home.
Day 6 – Pilan, Piktindan or Geitgallien – Choose your mountain Depending on snow and group energy, we have three options today: Pilan or Piktindan, two versatile and scenic peaks reachable directly from our base, or for the more ambitious (and if conditions allow), the ascent of Geitgallien, a wilder and more demanding peak — an adventure beyond the tracks. Whatever the choice, it will be another day of skiing, light and endless horizons.
Day 7 – Final Tour – Freedom to Choose Our last day on skis. The goal depends on the weather, snow and group mood. Whether it’s a panoramic tour or a more technical descent, this day celebrates a week of snow, wind and fjords — a perfect closing chapter to a journey to the edge of the world.
Day 8 – Return to Reality - In the morning, we leave Laupstad and head back to Evenes Airport for the flight home. The Arctic scenery passes outside the window, but the memories remain: skiing, sea and silence — in a land where nature still sets the rhythm of life.
