Wild Southern Brenta

You will set off by taxi-jeep from Molveno towards San Lorenzo in Banale and head up the first part of Val d’Ambiez by four wheel drive until rifugio Cacciatori at approx.1800 metres of altitude which is the gateway to the Brenta Dolomites.

With your backpacks on, you hike up the marvellous amphitheatre shaped by the most popular Dolomite rock faces, scene of many important climbs up vertical walls which overlook the valley.The scenery above the rifugio Cacciatore (1.821 metres) and at the farmhouses of Prato and Senaso, until Rifugio Agostini (2450 metres) along the path which crosses the “fossil garden” are beautiful and very much appreciated. This natural treasure preserves the remains of megalodons that lived almost 200 million years ago when a tropical sea stretched out in place of the mountains.The first part of the ascent, following the Palmieri path, is the day’s most tiring, but once the Forcolotta di Noghera pass is reached, the trail continues on the flat, allowing to appreciate isolated rocky landscapes and observe countless chamois looking on curiously. A slight descent towards Pozza Tramontana offers a glimpse of Rifugio Pedrotti.

Now the path climbs up towards wonderful peaks and walls where Cima Tosa with its 3131 metres, towers above the Brenta Dolomites. The rifugio Pedrotti then gives way to the descent, which step after step, and peak after peak will lead to the rifugio Croz Altissimo. From here the descent to Lake Molveno across Val delle Seghe is tackled by taxi-jeep until you reach the starting point.
