DESCRIPTION
Join us on a hike that will take you on a journey through history, nature, and stunning views! We begin in the village of Nago, located on the shores of Lake Garda, and ascend the slopes of Monte Corno, where a postcard-like landscape awaits. As we immerse ourselves in the lush holm oak forest, we will have the chance to explore the perfectly restored Austro-Hungarian defense system, which tells the story of the Great War. Along the way, we will also have the privilege of observing the spectacular Giant’s Pots, fascinating glacial rock formations that add a geological touch to the experience.
Itinerary:
Km 5.5 – 3 hrs – Elevation ↑450 m ↓450 m
Our trek starts from Nago (220 m), a charming starting point that immediately introduces us to the surrounding nature. We’ll quickly ascend towards the “Belvedere” cliffs, famous for sport climbing, and venture into the green of an ancient rocky trail. After a few minutes, we’ll reach the holm oak forest, where the landscape becomes even more enchanting. Along the way, we’ll have the chance to deviate to visit the small Giant’s Pots, deep rock formations created by glacial erosion, and the rifle pits, fortifications built during World War I. After about 40 minutes of walking, we’ll arrive at the chestnut grove of Monte Corno (400 m), continuing towards “La Busa dei Capitani” (480 m), a historic area where we will explore the ruins of a command post. From there, we’ll follow trail no. 637, which leads us to the location of Tre Croci (580 m). After a short stop and a visit to the restored galleries, we’ll begin our return journey along a series of trails, eventually returning to Nago, completing this fascinating circular loop.
