DESCRIPTION
The Riva del Garda - Ponale Trek is an easy, family-friendly route that immerses you in a landscape rich in history and nature. This path, one of the most famous in Europe, connects Riva del Garda to the Val di Ledro. The road, once used for transport, cuts through rocky cliffs and offers a unique panorama that seems like a long balcony hanging over Lake Garda.
Program
Distance: 9.5 km – Duration: 3h – Elevation gain: ↑350 m
Along the way, we’ll be accompanied by spectacular views of rocky cliffs and lush vegetation, while the blue of the lake completes the breathtaking scenery. The Ponale Road, closed to motor traffic, is a famous bike trail but also perfect for a peaceful walk.
During the trek, we’ll come across numerous engineering works, including those used in the construction of the road and the ancient Riva del Garda aqueduct. Among the most fascinating stops is the 'Tagliata del Ponale', a fortification from the Great War, characterized by a long staircase carved into a tunnel.
A break at a panoramic bar with a lake view will provide some relaxation before crossing the Ponale stream and tackling the last uphill stretch leading to the Pregasina viewpoint. We’ll return along the same route, completing a unique experience of nature and history.
