DESCRIPTION

Explore one of the most fascinating hikes on Monte Baldo, with unspoiled landscapes leading to the panoramic summit of Monte Altissimo (2070 m). This trail crosses the “Botanical Garden of Europe,” known for its variety of medicinal plants and unique alpine flora. Beyond the natural beauty, the path also offers a historical immersion, as herbalists and pharmacists have explored these mountains since the 15th century in search of medicinal plants. The hike provides an escape from the hot summer days, with unforgettable views of Lake Garda.

Program
Route: 9 km – Duration: 6 hours – Elevation Gain: ↑ 700 m ↓ 700 m

Transfer: Departure by transfer to reach Prati di Nago (1560 m), the starting point of the hike.

Ascent to Monte Altissimo: The trail winds through the Val del Parol, a wild area rich in biodiversity. From May to July, the trail transforms into a natural garden with spectacular blooms. Along the way, you may spot marmots, chamois, and discover rocky outcrops of limestone, rich in fossils.

Duration and Elevation Gain: The ascent to Rifugio Damiano Chiesa (2053 m) takes about 3 hours, with an elevation gain of +430 m.

Lunch Break: At Rifugio Damiano Chiesa, with the option to take a short excursion to the summit for a spectacular view of Lake Garda.

Panoramic Descent: The return is via Sentiero 601, offering breathtaking views among mountain pines and rhododendrons.

To participate in a Trekking excursion, it is important to bring:

  • Hiking Boots: Sturdy and comfortable shoes suitable for mountain terrain and elevation changes.
  • Backpack: A lightweight and practical backpack to carry essential items during the trek, including spare clothing. 
  • Wind/Rain Jacket: In case of sudden bad weather, to stay dry and protected. 
  • 2-litre Water Bottle: Staying hydrated throughout the journey is crucial, so bring a water bottle of at least 2 litre. 
  • Hat: To protect yourself from the sun during the walk, especially in the hottest hours. 
  • Sunglasses: Essential for protecting your eyes from UV rays, especially at higher altitudes. 
  • Sunscreen: To protect your skin from harmful sun rays during the trek. 
  • Trekking Poles (optional): Helpful for improving stability and reducing fatigue, but optional depending on personal preference.
